  • Rule Question

Does this rule apply to all shooting classes or just those shooting unknown and judging? Would appreciate a clarification from Mike or someone at ASA office. Thank you.

    K. After you set your sights and draw your bow, you cannot reset your sights after a letdown. Penalty: A score of zero for that target.

As the rule is written it applies to all classes. However, the logic and reasoning behind this prohibition on resetting your sight is not really applicable to known classes. We wouldn't be surprised if they occasionally "overlook" this rule on the known ranges, but it does apply there at this time. We definitely need to revisit it for next year. Thanks for your question and helping us focus on changes that may need to be made.

Thank you Mike for the clarification. I've heard people out on the ranges say that rule applied only to the unknown classes (I interpreted the rule as it was written). This may be an area that shooters need to be aware of before someone calls them out on it and they receive that nice big goose egg for a score (until such time this rule may be revised or revoked for the known classes).

One consideration that also affects this rule for the known classes is whether they are shooting on a range that is being shared with unknown classes. Then the rule definitely applies.
